Decades ago, infertility was perceived as taboo or a social stigma. In some cultures, if a couple could not conceive a child, it got the whole village talking. People thought the family was cursed because they had done something bad in the past. Thankfully, things have changed for the better. Infertility is no longer viewed as a curse or a disease and couples are now seeking professional medical advice to assist them in addressing their fertility issues.
Sunfert International Fertility Center, which was previously located at Sunway Medical Center, is now a standalone center at Bangsar South. Sunfert aims to be a one-stop center for couples hoping to start a family together.
Consultant Obstetrician, Gynaecologist, Fertility Specialist and founder of Sunfert International Fertility Center, Dr. Wong Pak Seng says, “we want to provide effective and value added treatment with the latest cutting edge technology.” He adds that the shift from being located in a medical center to a standalone facility allows patients to be more comfortable when seeking treatment.
Out of the Ordinary Design
When it comes to the concept of the center, Dr. Wong shares that he was actively involved in planning and designing the space to ensure that it meets international standards and patients’ expectations as well. An example he shared was, “We have a VIP lounge for customers who prefer some added privacy. This VIP lounge is linked directly to the parking area. Hence, the patient can enter and exit the center with absolute privacy.”
Aside from that, Sunfert is also known as a boutique center. Dr. Wong explains that, “Firstly, fertility is not a disease and it is important that we understand that patients might feel uncomfortable when seeking help on fertility issues at a centralised area such as a medical center. Hence, a standalone center with a modern design gives patients a positive feeling.”
For instance, the view of Kuala Lumpur’s skyline from the center’s waiting lounge gives it a comfortable and positive atmosphere. On top of that, the floor-to-ceiling windows allow natural light to brighten up the space during the day.
However, the unique and carefully considered designs are not the only impressive aspect to take note of. The center also offers an array of treatments at mid-range prices (between RM 15,500 to RM 18,000) and currently has four doctors practicing at the center.
Sunfert International Fertility Center has state-of-the-art medical equipment for accurate, efficient diagnoses. These include high-tech ultrasound machines that provide a clearer scan and a Sonohystogram (Sono-HSG) that allows the doctor to investigate the true cause of infertility.
When it comes to fertility treatments, the center offers a variety of treatments from keyhole reproductive surgeries that are performed by the doctors themselves to fertility treatment programs such as assisted conception or assisted reproductive programs. “We also have a Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) lab which allows the medical experts to check the health of the ovum before it is implanted,” explains Dr. Wong.
Aside from that, Sunfert also houses a Wellness Center which provides massage chairs for patients to relax in. Dr. Wong emphasizes that overall wellness is important when it comes to fertility. Hence, the center has a life coach who will guide and provide positive reinforcement to patients as they journey toward conceiving a child.
Dr. Wong states that more people are now seeking fertility treatment. He adds that with the opening of Sunfert, he is optimistic that the center will be able to host more fertility cycles (from diagnosis to treatment) in a single year.
