Children who have had their tonsils removed seem to gain weight after the surgery and are more likely to become overweight compared to other children. This finding was reported by the Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center in St. Louis, USA. The conclusion was arrived after a review of the weight of 795 children ranging in age from 0 to 18 years old before and after tonsillectomy and for up to eight years after it. However, it is still unclear why the weight-gain happens.
