International Nurses Day celebrates the hardworking heroes of healthcare.
In many countries, primary care is provided by nurses and they are usually the ones who are closer to the community and can understand local health problems and needs. Nurses play a very important role in promoting good health in communities around the world. Their work is vital when it comes to halting the spread of diseases. This is one of the ways that nurses help reduce the overall cost of healthcare.
International Nurses Day is celebrated every 12th of May to recognize the hardworking heroes of healthcare. This date was chosen in honour of the day Florence Nightingale — the founder of modern nursing — was born. The theme this year is ‘Nurses: A Force for Change: Care Effective, Cost Effective’.
