Breast Implants Linked to Rare Breast Cancer

The U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is investigating a possible link between breast implants and a rare form of cancer known as anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL). To date, 35 cases have been detected in USA. Ironically, the Karmanos Cancer Institute had pointed out a decade ago that silicone are manufactured from a chemical that can cause harmful health effects, but this warning was ignored. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) has agreed to work with the FDA by establishing a breast implant registry for documenting adverse effects of breast implants and cases of ALCL.
