Unusual Kangkung Delights

Discover new ways to enjoy the ubiquitous kangkung.

Kangkung, makes a regular appearance on Malaysian tables either at home or in restaurants. A much-loved local favourite, one of the most popular methods to cook this vegetable is to stir-fry it. Add a dash of garlic and chillies and you’ve just made yourself a delicious vegetable dish!

However, there are many other ways to enjoy kangkung. Urban Health introduces two interesting and slightly out of the ordinary ways to enjoy kangkung.

Stir-Fried kangkung and beancurd



1 handful Kangkung

¼ Ginger, sliced thinly

1 cube Fermented beancurd

1 Chili, sliced and deseed

A pinch of sugar


  1. Heat a non-stick pan over the lowest flame and cook ginger.
  2. Then, add kangkung, fermented beancurd and sugar to the pan.
  3. Stir-fry until vegetables are cooked.
  4. Turn off the heat and sprinkle the sliced chili over the dish as garnishing.
  5. Serve immediately.

Kangkung apple smoothie



¾ cup Chopped kangkung leaves

1 stalk Celery

½ Banana

½ cup Apple juice

½ cup Ice

1 tbsp Lemon juice


  1. Blanch kangkung leaves and drain.
  2. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
  3. Serve immediately.
