Tangerines Prevents Obesity and Heart Disease

Diabetes Journal has reported that by researchers at the University of Western Ontario has found a substance in tangerines that prevents obesity and protects against Type 2 Diabetes and atherosclerosis (or hardening of the arteries), which causes heart disease. Two groups of rates were fed with a  diet high in fats and simple sugars.  However, in one group, a flavonoid in tangerines called Nobiletin was added to the diet. The Nobiletin-treated mice were basically protected from obesity. The other group became obese and suffered from high cholesterol levels, high blood levels of insulin and glucose, and a fatty liver.
