Eat More Fatty Foods when You are Depressed

Researchers from University of Leuven, Belgium have found that fatty foods can lift up your mood. In the study, Dr. Lukas Van Oudenhove  and his team  charted areas of the brain of 12 healthy individuals with functional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans. They were then given an infusion of either fatty acid or saline via a feeding tube. When the infusion was administered, the participants were not aware what they were receiving.  They provided feedback on their  mood before the imaging scan, and also three times during it. The researchers noticed that the level of sadness among the fatty acid receivers was 50% lower  compared to the saline receivers.
