Calorie Intake

By Edeline Anne Goh

Are you finding it hard to button your pants? Do you need to punch a new hole in your belt to accommodate your expanding midsection?

Take heart because it’s not all your fault! Some of Malaysia’s most delicious dishes are rich in carbohydrate and high in calories. There is no harm in indulging in moderation of course but a sedentary lifestyle plus eating high calorie food at every meal will eventually take a toll on your waistline.

That’s why it’s important to watch your calorie intake to ensure that you have a healthy Body Mass Index (BMI). Here’s a rough guideline of your recommended daily calorie intake.

  Woman (calories) Man (calories)
14 to 18 years 1800 2200
19 to 30 years 2000 2400
31 to 50 years 1800 2200
51 years above 1600 2000

Note: Your recommended calorie intake may vary depending on your lifestyle and health. Be sure to consult your doctor.
